It has been reported that Pastor Rick Warren, the famous California mega-church pastor and author of The Purpose Driven Life Rick, has apologized to his homosexual friends for making comments in support of California's Proposition 8, and now claims he "never once even gave an endorsement" of the marriage amendment. The truth of the matter is that Warren endorsed Proposition 8 before the election, perhaps not "publicly", if publicly means beyond the thousands of people who make up his congregation. This is an excerpt of what he said regarding Proposition 8:
"The election's coming just in a couple of weeks, and I hope you're praying about your vote. One of the propositions, of course, that I want to mention is Proposition 8, which is the proposition that had to be instituted because the courts threw out the will of the people. And a court of four guys actually voted to change a definition of marriage that has been going for 5,000 years. "Now let me say this really clearly: we support Proposition 8 -- and if you believe what the Bible says about marriage, you need to support Proposition 8. I never support a candidate, but on moral issues I come out very clear."
Obviously he is not so clear about moral issues, since he has basically retracted from his initial support for Proposition 8 and now says he has "never been and never will be" an "anti-gay or anti-gay marriage activist." While the Christian position is one of loving the human person with homosexual tendencies and respect his or her dignity as a human person, the Christian position has been also one of rejecting homosexual behavior, and even more so, the Christian position is one that rejects the glorification of a behavior that is considered to be abhorrent and sinful. It is very sad that Pastor Warren has radically changed his views on this issue, and one wonders how far he will go in the opposite direction, in order to grab the attention of our President and the popularity of the "new" Messianic movement. Sadly this seems to be more important to Warren than the teachings of Christ.

ReplyDeleteI was wondering what this author is referring to by "teachings of Christ"regarding homosexuality. I don't recall Jesus ever "teaching" about homosexuality...

Sadly, the evolutionary biology and naturalism evident before our eyes isn't as important as your (obviously man-made) holy book :( You'd have better luck trying to convert gay animals like the bonobo and the dolphin.
ReplyDeleteIn my book, Rick Warren is a bigot, a hatemonger, a false prophet, and a liar who uses the Word of God for his own monetary enrichment. Little wonder he has recently been struck blind and is in "excruciating pain".
ReplyDeleteTo say to someone that God accepts that person's homosexuality is an unloving thing to do. To say that Jesus gave his life for them is a loving thing to do. The truth is, we all need Jesus.
